May 1, 2014
Congratulations on being chosen to represent your region at the 2014 Maritime Heritage Fair, taking place in Charlottetown, PEI, July 8 to 13, 2014! This historic event commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Charlotte Conference of 1864. As part of the New Brunswick delegation, you will be meeting and living with 30 other Maritime students, and presenting your Heritage Fair project to the public at the Confederation Center for the Arts! In preparation for the big event, I look forward to meeting you and your parents/guardians at the Provincial Showcase and New Brunswick Orientation Session taking place at the Fortin de Petit-Sault and Musée historique du Madawaska in Edmundston, June 20-22, 2014.
The Maritime Heritage Fair planning team, as well as the fine staff of the Musée historique du Madawaska, are now placing the finishing touches on the three-day Provincial Showcase in Edmundston. It is extremely important (in fact, it is so important, that it is mandatory) that you and at least one of your parents/guardians attend, in order to be prepared for your six days in Charlottetown. Over the weekend, you’ll have an opportunity to meet the 14 other students from across New Brunswick – as well as the teacher chaperones – who will join you on your adventure in July.
In confirmation of your participation, the enclosed parental permission form will need to be completed and signed by your parents/guardians and faxed back to me - (506-453-2416) - before May 30. Then we will be able to follow up this communication with an e-mail directing your parents to the Provincial Heritage Fair blog site.
Accommodation arrangements can be made for June 20 and 21 at a reduced group rate:
- Best Western Plus (http://www.bestwestern.com/ ) – 280 Hebert Boulevard. Your parent/guardian can call 1-888-735-0001 to make reservations - before May 30.
On Friday, June 20th, we will all meet at 6:00 pm (including your parents/guardians), at the Fortin de Petit-Sault historic site, for a meet and greet and to register.
On Saturday, June 21st, the program will take place off-site, as you will take part in various workshops in the area. At day’s end, the delegation will be transported to the residence of the Université de Moncton (Edmundston Campus) for a sleepover.
On Sunday, June 22nd, you will be busy at the museum all morning, preparing for the opening ceremony at 11:00am. During this event, the Honourable Graydon Nicholas, Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick, and other special guests, will gather for a celebration of New Brunswick Heritage. At this time, you will be presented with a special Provincial medal.
I hope that you are excited about participating! We have a special program planned for you, and are certain that your entire family will enjoy their heritage immersion weekend in the "Republic" of Madawaska.
Looking forward to June 20, 21 and 22!
